Other Interesting Facts You May Not Know

I lost some of my hearing at the age of 12. Some believe it happened as a result of scarlet fever. Others believe it happened as a result of me experimenting with science on the train. They say a Conductor was angry with me for starting the fire and boxed my ears. I don't remember the Conductor doing that. I believe it happened when the Conductor picked me up by my ears and lifted me on the train.

Awards and Recognition

I am noted as having 1,093 patents in my name. I am recognized as one of the inventors that is responsible for having a great impact on quality of life experienced today. I made great contributions with telecommunications.

My Contributions and Benefits to Mankind

The phonograph that I invented was later redesigned by Alexander Bell, Chichester Bell, and Charles Tainter. This phonograph was eventually developed into a stereo record player, which evolved into other known devices such as an 8-tract player, cassette player, and now the CD player. I also invented the light bulb and responsible for implementing electric power generation and the distribution of it to homes and businesses. My first power station was on Manhatten Island, New York. So, you could say I am responsible for the electricity and light that is in your home today!

Research and Invention

My first invention was the Phonograph in 1877. Later I invented a motion picture camera, and the electric light bulb to name a few. I really love to experiment and invent mechanical things!

Career

I started my job as a trainboy selling candy and making newspapers. It was the first newspaper ever published on a train. A short time later, I rescued a 3 year old boy from a box car that was about to hit him. His father was happy that I saved his son, so he gave me a job as a telegraph operator. I will continue to work on my scientific experiments and inventing things. That is what I truly love to do.

Our family decided to move to Port Huron, Michigan in 1854. Unfortunately, I didn't do well in school and was considered a poor student. My parents decided they would home school me. I'm turning twelve years old soon (1859), and I'm planning on getting a job selling candy and newspapers.

My name is Thomas Alva Edison. I was born February 11th, 1847 in Milan, Ohio. I am the youngest of seven siblings. My nickname is "Al". I passed away on October
13th, 1931.

A great scientist and inventor responsible for over a thousand patents, and loved to experiment with mechanical things. He implemented the first electric power generation and distribution to homes, businesses and factories.
Contributions to society include a phonograph, motion picture camera and electric light bulb, just to name a few. He was married twice. His first wife was Mary Stilwell, who passed away in 1884. He later married Mina Miller. He had a total of six children.
